About the Event
Please join us in our new gallery on the 3rd floor of the Upper Jay Art Center for a viewing of the powerfully beautiful collection of photographs by Nikos Sola who will be on hand to share his work while living and working in Palestine. This is for and about the beautiful, kind, endearing, fun, strong, caring, soulful, warm, and enduring people of Palestine. News, image, and misconception are at the heart of this work, which looks to explore a marginalized people. A people who cherish family, love, religion, work, and the myriad of other things that constitute a life. What does news, even the most objective news, do to our perception of what it covers? It must, inevitably and fundamentally, alter how we perceive the subject therein. Labels, names, and other categorical conventions do this as well. When we are directed to watch or read, that presentation or stage plays a substantial role in how we come to understand, perceive, and ultimately feel about a subject..
